Why blog? I suppose like many 22nd century humans I have multiple motivations. I would like to think the more noble incentive of intellectual generosity is in play.
For many years I have taken from the internet; leveraged it strategically; managing search words, giving interviews and looking up various data from how to remove my car radio to downloading music and paying bills. And though I certainly have more than most as far as Internet real estate when one searches for my name or my company, almost all the information one would harvest was planted on someone else’s turf, not mine. This is not to say that all the quotes and informative articles are not accurate or honest. They all are and I remain perpetually flattered as to the attention so many third parties continue to give me and my organization. Many of them have helped me learn things about better business and even deeper understanding of my company.
But what about those things I think of that do not fit into a tidy little article, interview, forum thread or other formal mode of communiqué posting? So when I heard the word “blogosphere” for the umpteenth time on the news yesterday I thought, hey maybe this could be the venue to give back, upload some intellect, wax rhapsodic, with enough coffee maybe make some sense and sometimes even return fire. After all my house and office are full of right angles and squares. What would it be like to be in a sphere? So here I am blogging. Feels a lot like emailing. I am using the same keyboard as I use for emailing. So what’s the diff. Oh, yeah, I am CC-ing everyone! Talk about email carpet bombing! Well I guess we will see about that. Right now I have a following of three. That would be my lovely wife Patty and business partners Kevin and Keith.
So welcome to my little wordplay room. I plan to contribute additional content on a regular basis. I hope to use this venue as a warm fuzzy place to incubate some ideas, share thoughts and expose opinions that might never see the light of day otherwise. Some will be technical based, some business or commerce dissertations as well as a shuffle from time into the realm of spirit and quantum mechanics (which, by the way are one in the same). I have and continue to lead a semi-charmed life with all the cherries and pits as flavorful as ever. What is likely to be the best outcome of this BillyBlog is the wonderful opportunity it will avail for self discovery. For it is by articulating these thoughts and ideas that I will be able to hear and understand them myself. Another karmic benefit is the slight potential that one other human will find even a small piece of this work useful. For being useful to another human being is perhaps the greatest and most rewarding calling. The raw essence of this precept is at the heart of my company’s mission statement “Accountability of Use” as well as my personal belief.
Till next time, thanks for the listen…
